Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

What is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy?

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is based on the idea that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected. To help individuals change their behavior, CBT employs techniques such as self-monitoring, activity scheduling for depression, and exposure and response prevention for anxiety.
The ultimate goal of CBT is to provide individuals with the tools they need to lead a happier and more fulfilling life.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is a structured form of therapy designed to help people recover from traumatic experiences. This type of therapy is based on the idea that the mind can heal from psychological trauma in much the same way that the body can recover from physical trauma.

Studies have shown that EMDR therapy can be a highly effective tool for treating trauma. Unlike other treatments which focus on emotions, EMDR therapy is focused on the memory, and is intended to change the way that the memory is stored in the brain, thus reducing and eliminating the problematic symptoms.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a type of therapy that involves learning skills to reduce the impact of difficult thoughts and feelings, by identifying what brings meaning to life, and taking steps to align with those values.

In ACT, the emphasis is on accepting thoughts and feelings in the present moment, rather than trying to change them. The therapy views psychological distress as resulting from avoidance or evaluation of thoughts and feelings. This can lead to negative thinking patterns that interfere with one's ability to live according to their values.

ACT aims to help individuals accept what they can't control and focus on taking control of what they can to improve their quality of life.

Somatic Therapy

What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic Therapy, also known as Somatic Experiencing,  is different from other therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in that it incorporates body-oriented modalities such as dance, breath work, and meditation to support mental healing, while other types of therapy are concerned primarily with the mind.

Most Somatic Therapy sessions include both talk therapy and mind-body exercises in tandem. Somatic therapy operates off the idea that what happens to you in your life is stored not only in your mind but also in your body. By focusing on both the physical sensations in your body and the discussion of your problems, it is a more comprehensive approach to therapy.

Couples Therapy

What is Couples Therapy?

Couples therapy is focused on fostering a healthier relationship by giving couples the tools to navigate conflicts together. Our supportive therapists create a safe and non-judgmental environment for you and your partner to openly discuss your experiences and work towards overcoming any challenges you may be facing. We are dedicated to helping people rediscover the connection and love in their relationships.

Our therapists are equipped to assist with a wide range of relationship issues, from communication difficulties to rebuilding trust after an affair. We welcome all couples, including LGBTQIA2S+ couples and Ethically Non-Monogamous partnerships, seeking therapy and are committed to helping you achieve a stronger, healthier relationship.

Group Therapy

What is Group Therapy?

Group Therapy harnesses the power of collective experiences to provide participants with insights, feedback, and support. This form of psychotherapy allows a group of participants to benefit from diverse perspectives, finding hope and a sense of belonging through shared challenges and emotional growth. Though some may feel intimidated by the idea of speaking with strangers, the therapists and other participants work together to create an environment where everyone feels safe and cared for.

Integration Therapy

Stella Integration therapy Sessions are built to optimize healing and growth by making meaning of treatment outcomes and create individualized action plans that turn insights into growth.

Maurice has worked in many practice areas throughout his nursing career, including psychiatry, oncology, palliative care, medical intensive care, hospice, and home health. Much of his psychiatry experience has been with adolescents; however, he also has many years of experience working with adults. He enjoys working with various age groups and has a natural ability to build rapport with his patients. He received his master's degree as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practioner at Maryville University and at that time, he also received a master's degree in Business and Healthcare Administration.
